Displaying risks in a dashboard

The Risk matrix gadget displays a risk matrix from a risk register on a Jira dashboard. Use it to monitor the distribution of risks, share a visual risk summary with stakeholders, or show risk information alongside other Jira dashboard data.

Each matrix cell represents a combination of probability and impact. The cell colour represents the risk level, and the number in the cell shows how many risks have that assessment.

Before you begin

Make sure you can access the Jira dashboard and the risk register you want to display. The gadget can only show risk registers, risk bases, and risk models that are available to you.

Configure the risk matrix gadget

Choose the risk register, risk basis, and risk model that you want the gadget to display.

1. Add the Risk matrix gadget to a Jira dashboard, or edit an existing gadget.

2. Under Risk register, select the risk register you want to display.

3. Under Risk basis, select the risk assessment you want to show.

4. Under Risk model, select the risk model to use.

5. Choose whether to use the Chromeless display.

6. Select Save.

The gadget displays risks that belong to the selected risk register and match the selected risk model and risk basis.

Choose a risk register

The Risk register setting determines which risks are included in the gadget.

1. Edit the gadget.

2. Under Risk register, select a risk register.

3. Select Save.

The gadget updates to use risks from the selected risk register.

Choose the risk basis

Use Risk basis to choose which risk assessment the matrix displays.

The available options are:

• Inherent risk — the risk before treatment or controls are applied.

• Residual risk — the risk after treatment or controls are applied.

1. Edit the gadget.

2. Under Risk basis, select the assessment you want to display.

3. Select Save.

The gadget recalculates the number of risks in each matrix cell using the selected risk basis.

Choose a risk model

The Risk model setting determines the matrix dimensions, risk levels, and cell colours used by the gadget.

1. Edit the gadget.

2. Under Risk model, select a risk model.

3. Select Save.

Only risks assessed using the selected risk model are counted in the matrix cells. The probability values, impact values, orientation, risk levels, and colours displayed by the gadget come from the selected risk model.

Use the chromeless display

Use Chromeless when you want a simpler, more compact matrix for a dashboard.

When Chromeless is selected, the gadget hides:

• the risk basis and risk register title;

• the risk model name;

• the probability and impact axis titles;

• the probability and impact dimension labels.

The matrix cells and risk counts remain visible.

1. Edit the gadget.

2. Select Chromeless: don’t show titles and dimension labels on this matrix.

3. Select Save.

Clear the option and save the gadget to restore the titles and dimension labels.

Open risks from the matrix

Select a matrix cell to open the corresponding risk register.

The risk register opens on the Risk matrix tab using the same:

• risk basis;

• risk model;

• probability;

• impact.

Use this to move from a dashboard overview to the detailed risk matrix view for further investigation. From the risk register matrix, you can review the risks associated with the selected cell and open individual work items in Jira.

Edit the gadget

Edit the gadget when you want to display a different risk register, risk basis, risk model, or presentation style.

1. Open the gadget’s menu.

2. Select the option to edit the gadget.

3. Change the configuration.

4. Select Save.

Select Cancel to close the configuration without saving your changes.
