Risk Foundry

Risk Foundry

Risk Foundry helps you quickly add pre-written risks and treatments to a Jira project. It provides a curated library of risks and treatments written in an ISO-defensible format, so teams can start building a consistent risk register without creating every item from scratch.

Before you begin

Make sure you have access to the Jira project where you want to create risks and treatments.

The selected work type must be suitable for risk assessment. Risk Foundry creates the risk work items using the Summary and Description fields. Work types with required fields that do not have default values are not supported.

Risk Foundry creates draft starting points. Review each generated risk and treatment to make sure it matches your project context, risk appetite, and governance requirements.

Open Risk Foundry

  1. Go to your Jira project.

  2. Select Risks from the project navigation.

  3. Select Actions, then select Risk Foundry.

The Risk Foundry dialog opens.

Select risks

Choose the risks you want to add to your project.

  1. Use Search to find risks by name.

  2. Use Categories to filter risks by category, such as Project Management.

  3. Select one or more risks.

  4. Select Next.

Each risk includes a name, category, and description. The description is written as an ISO-defensible risk statement using a cause → event → impact structure.

Tip: Select only the risks that are relevant to the project. Adding too many generic risks can make the risk register harder to review and maintain.

Select treatments

For each selected risk, review the suggested treatments and choose the treatments you want to include.

  1. Expand a risk to view its available treatments.

  2. Select one or more treatments.

  3. Review the selected risk and treatment count at the bottom of the dialog.

  4. Select Next.

Each treatment includes a name and a detailed, actionable description aligned to established practice.

Treatments are optional. You can create risks without treatments, then add or link treatments later from the risk work item.

Configure how items are created

Choose how Risk Foundry creates the selected risks and treatments in Jira.

Work type

Select the work type to use for the risk work items, such as Risk.

The selected work type must be able to take a risk assessment. Risk Foundry only populates the Summary and Description fields when creating risks.

Treatments

Choose how treatments are added:

  • Work item — Create treatments as separate work items and link them using the treatment link type.

  • Create as sub-tasks — Create treatments as sub-tasks of the risk.

  • Include in description — Add treatments to the risk description instead of creating separate work items.

When you are ready, select Create.

What happens next

Risk Foundry creates the selected risk work items and adds treatments using the configuration you selected.

Created items include pre-written content in the summary and description fields. You can edit the generated risks and treatments after they are created.

Review generated items before relying on them. Update summaries, descriptions, ownership, due dates, and risk assessment values so the created items reflect how your team manages risk in Jira.

Notes

  • Risk Foundry does not overwrite existing risks.

  • The quality of the created register depends on selecting risks and treatments that are appropriate for your project context.

  • If treatment work items or sub-tasks are created, review any project automation or workflow rules that may apply to those new items.
