Reports and dashboards (Data Center)

At a glance: Risk Register provides reporting options that help teams review and communicate risk exposure in Jira Data Center. You can add a risk matrix to a Jira dashboard, generate a project report, or display risk information on a Confluence page..

Before you begin

Make sure that:

  • Risk Register for Jira has a valid licence.

  • You have permission to view the projects and issues included in the report.

  • The required Risk Register fields are available and searchable.

  • A Jira administrator has configured the applicable risk models.

  • Any saved filter used by the report is visible to its intended audience.

Users only see risks that they have permission to view.

Display a risk matrix on a Jira dashboard

Add the Risk matrix gadget to a Jira dashboard when you want a shared view of current risk exposure.

  1. Go to the dashboard you want to update.

  2. Select Add gadget.

  3. Search for and add the Risk matrix gadget.

  4. Configure the gadget settings.

  5. Save the gadget.

Configure the following settings:

  • Project or saved filter: Select the Jira project or saved filter that contains the risks you want to display.

  • Exposure basis: Select whether the gadget shows original risk or residual risk.

  • Matrix size: Select the full or compact matrix view.

  • Refresh interval: Select how often the gadget refreshes its data.

Best practice: Use a saved filter when the dashboard needs to show a defined subset of risks, such as risks for a program, release, component, or owner. This keeps the gadget configuration stable and easier to maintain.

Generate a risk matrix report

Use the Risk Matrix report when you need a project-level view of risk exposure.

  1. Go to the Jira project that contains the risks.

  2. From the project sidebar, select Reports.

  3. Select Risk Matrix.

  4. Configure the report settings.

  5. Select Next to generate the report.

Configure the following settings:

  • Project or saved filter: Select the Jira project or saved filter that contains the risks you want to include.

  • Exposure basis: Select whether the report shows original risk or residual risk.

Display risk information in Confluence

You can display a Risk matrix gadget on a Confluence page when Confluence is connected to Jira Data Center.

Before you add the gadget, confirm that:

  1. An application link is configured between Confluence and Jira.

  2. Jira is registered as a source of external gadgets in Confluence.

  3. You have permission to edit the Confluence page where the gadget will be displayed.

After the prerequisites are in place, add the risk matrix gadget macro to the Confluence page. Configure the macro using the same settings as the Jira dashboard gadget.

Terminology: In Jira Data Center documentation, use Jira project, project sidebar, dashboard gadget, and saved filter. Menu labels and administration options can vary by Jira Data Center and Confluence version.
